This scholarship is designed to reduce tuition expenses for Veterans and their family members who are not using, or do not have access to the Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry Scholarship. It may be used by spouses and dependents in conjunction with the Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) or with the Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapters 30, 1606, or 1607) when the servicemember is no longer actively serving (and therefore not eligible for the active service tuition rate).
Eligibility
- All Veterans that can document service through DD214, DD256, DD257, or NGB22 with a discharge status of Honorable or General Under Honorable Conditions (Other Than Honorable, Bad Conduct Discharge, Dishonorable Discharge, Entry-Level Separation do not qualify)
- Spouses and dependents require a statement from the serving spouse/parent and a copy of the appropriate service verification document
- Veterans, spouses, or dependents utilizing Chapter 30, 1606, 1607, or 35 need only to provide their certificate of eligibility for the appropriate VA education benefit
- Eligibility will remain in effect as long as the student is continuously enrolled
- Current and new students qualify for this scholarship, but it is not retroactive
This scholarship is only applicable to programs in our class-based modality. 1:1 programs are not currently eligible for this offer.
Implementation
A tuition scholarship of 25% is approved for Veterans, Veteran spouses, and dependents that are not eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill® or Fry Scholarship benefits. This scholarship will commence with the 2012 term.
Enrollment advisors, enrollment specialists, and/or academic advisors will assist with ensuring eligible individuals qualify and receive this scholarship.
FAQ
The Veteran, Spouse, and Dependent Scholarship may not be combined any other scholarship offerings.
The Veteran, Spouse, and Dependent Scholarship can be combined with VA Education benefits under Chapters 1606, 1607, 30 (Montgomery GI Bill®), or 35. It cannot be combined with Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill or the Fry Scholarship) or Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation).
No, you do not need to submit a FAFSA, but students are encouraged to do so.
Students seeking Associates, Bachelor’s, Master’s and credential programs (when combined with a Master’s program) are eligible for this scholarship.
Nursing programs are not eligible for this scholarship except for the RN-BSN program.
Dependent status is defined by IRS and Department of Education as a qualifying dependent in your household younger than 19 years old or a full time student younger than 24 as of the end of the calendar year. If you file a FAFSA and the determining questions identify the student as a dependent, they are qualified for this scholarship.
Spouses status is defined as they are eligible to file a joint tax return with the IRS or the state.
The Veteran needs to provide a copy of their DD-214, or appropriate service verification document, along with a statement that this is provided to substantiate their spouse or dependent qualifies for the scholarship.
