Joel Goodin is an educational psychologist with experience in health, industry, and all levels of education. His training specializations involved emotion, motivation, stress, and performance. His research foci are expertise, deliberate practice, and the neuroscience of religious cognition. He has studied resilience, expertise, and religious cognition, most recently serving as the PI of a research grant in the neuroscience of religious cognition, funded at $415,000 by the Templeton Foundation. He continues to study doctoral/dissertation success factors. His teaching experience has been at 4 grounded institutions and, more recently, 2 online institutions. Four of the six posiitions have been in the psychology departments. A fifth was in geriatric medical education. The sixth was in doctoral education. He is a published research in many peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He has presented at international, national, and regional scientific conferences and provided trainings on teaching, expertise, and various psychological content topics. He serves his community, university, and students at each institution, with involvement in student governance, alumni committees, research and grant committees, peer mentorship, public service volunteerism, and multiple research labs. In his current position, he works as a dissertation mentor and committee member as well as a course professor (faculty) in various psychological content fields. He also develops curriculum as needed and has served as the academic director of the MS in educational psychology until 2024. Goodin has been recognized for expertise in research and faculty excellence at multiple levels by multiple institutions.
