Dr. Melissa Trevathan-Minnis has been a faculty member first at legacy NCU for almost twelve years and a full-time faculty at NU since 2021. Dr. Trevathan-Minnis serves as a dissertation chair in the JFK School of Psychology and Social Sciences and is the faculty lead for the Gender and Sexual Fluidity specialization, and chair of the Research and Grants subcommittee. Dr. Trevathan-Minnis is also actively engaged in research and grant writing projects related to compassion fatigue within animal welfare efforts as well as support for cancer survivors. She has published a book, a book chapter, and many articles on these topics in addition to issues related to gender. She also sees a small number of clients in her private practice and is a certified Animal-Assisted Therapist partnering with her dog Athena, and a certified Ketamine-Assisted Therapist. Dr. Trevathan-Minnis lives in Austin, TX and is the mom of two children, three dogs, and one Sulcata tortoise. She actively works with animal rescue groups in her area, serves on the board of her church, and loves to travel and explore new restaurants.
