Carissa Smock is an associate professor within the department of Leadership, Management, & Human Capital in the School of Business & Economics at National University, serves on the American Public Health Association Intersection Council Steering Committee and Physical Activity Policy Research and Evaluation Network Parks and Greenspace and Rural Active Living workgroups. Holding a PhD and MPH in Health Policy and Management from Kent State University, her academic research focuses on disparities connecting physical activity to health services, leadership, and communities.
Alongside her community partners, she was awarded a Safe Routes to School grant to improve the physical activity infrastructure within her community and is excited for the construction to get underway. Other awards include Outstanding Dissertation Chair (2024), Excellence in Scholarship (2023), Research Excellence (2020), Faculty Research Capacity Award (2020), Faculty Research Support Award (2019) from National or Northcentral University, T32 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Fellowship funded by the Health Services Research Administration (2017 - 2018), Outstanding Contributions in Physical Activity and Outstanding Research in Physical Activity from the American Public Health Association (2015 - 2023), Ohio Public Health Practitioner’s Choice Award (2017), and Distance Learning Award.
