Vicki Lindsay, PhD has been a full-time associate professor in criminal justice at National University since 2018. She works in the doctoral program teaching one-on-one classes in qualitative and quantitative methods, criminal justice theory, and works closely with her dissertation students. She is the research block lead for the School of Public Service.
She fell in love with research and statistics while pursuing her PhD at the University of Southern Mississippi, earning 36 graduate hours in research and statistics. Prior to working with National University, she was very active in her community, creating the Forensic Science Summer Program, which combined state, county, and city resources together to host national experts in various fields of forensic sciences like entomology, zoology, toxicology, fingerprinting, and crime scene investigation. Local high school students could spend a week of hands-on training with these experts, learning how the hard sciences benefitted criminal justice agencies while the students solved themed, mock crime scenes.
Prior to this, she gained recognition with the State of Mississippi advocating for tougher laws preventing underage drinking and was awarded federally-funded grants to initiate evidence-based approaches against the use of illegal substances by juveniles. Prior to her time in academia, she worked for the state of Mississippi as a law enforcement officer and senior investigator.
Her main research is on substance use, police professionalism, and stress in policing. She believes strongly in the professionalism and education of individual police officers and will go out of her way to help officers to obtain eligibility for promotion through education.
