Julie Costello is an assistant professor in the marriage and family therapy program. Julie specializes in clinical supervision, research and assessment, and family therapy for military and first responders. She has extensive experience providing clinical supervision to master's level interns and post-graduate professionals and serves as an approved supervisor through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. In addition to academic roles, Julie is the owner and clinical director of Got Your Six Counseling, LLC, where she provides therapeutic services with a focus on military families. Julie earned a Doctor of Philosophy in marriage and family therapy from Northcentral University, where her dissertation explored the career and life satisfaction of military spouses who are licensed mental health clinicians. She also holds a Master of Science in counseling psychology from Tarleton State University and a Bachelor of Science in human services counseling from Old Dominion University. Julie is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, and Tennessee, and holds several certifications, including as a first responder counselor. Her research interests include the impact of military transitions on family systems, military spouse careers, and the role of clinical supervision in therapist development. Julie has taught a variety of graduate-level courses, including couples and sex therapy, military family therapy, and research methods in marriage and family therapy. She is deeply committed to advancing the field through both scholarly research and practical clinical work, particularly within the military and first responder communities.
