
San Marcos Teacher Residency Program at National University

The San Marcos Residency Program provides hands-on teaching experience in collaboration with dedicated mentor teachers, allowing residents to build confidence and skills in a real-world classroom environment. Our program emphasizes reflective teaching practices, commitment to educational equity, and alignment with the Portrait of a Graduate. By joining, residents become part of a supportive community dedicated to cultivating the next generation of educators within San Marcos Unified School District.

Supported Credential Programs:
- Master of Education in Inspired Teaching & Learning With a Preliminary Single Subject (Math, Science, Technology, Engineering) Subject Teaching Credential
- Master of Bilingual Education With a Preliminary Multiple or Single Subject Teaching Credential
Program Highlights
- $25,500 stipend from San Marcos USD
- $1,000 toward induction costs
- 18-month credentialing and master’s program

Applying for the San Marcos Program
- Complete all requirements to enroll in a credential program (prerequisite classes may be planned for Summer 2024).
- Complete weekly check-in surveys to monitor resident experiences and program improvements.
- Obtain a 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit – Apply for the Emergency 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit through the SD County Office of Education. The SD County Office can guide you through this step in the most efficient way.
- Certificate of Clearance – Apply online for this Certificate of Clearance on the CTC website. If you have a 30-day sub permit issued by CTC, you can skip this step and email your 30-day sub permit.
